The Harman Kardon’s Onyx powered speakers have a unique, sleek, modernist design that will attractively frame your laptop or desktop computer. Portable or Bookshelf ?

The Harman Kardon Onyx speakers are NOT portable – they are bookshelf. They are wireless speakers, but you have to plug them into an electrical outlet – there is a power cord to one speaker and a second wire to connect the two speakers together (they come as a pair) so they definitely aren’t portable. You can plug them into any desktop or laptop to enjoy stereo sounding music, streaming straight from your bluetooth enabled device.
Power Source/ Battery Life
This speaker runs on a high-performance, 40-watt powered 2.0, stereo speaker system. Simply just plug it in, and begin jamming to your tunes.
Wireless Standard: Bluetooth
The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 2 offers Bluetooth wireless streaming with NFC (that stands for Near Field communication, for the technically-challenged!). Pair with any of your bluetooth enabled devices; smartphones, computer, ipod or tablet and you don’t need a cable. You can even connect it to your TV and it will also connect to a PlayStation!
Controls
Controls on this speaker are simple to find and use. The volume buttons are located on the top of the device; the jack is on the bottom, right side. When connected to a computer, the volume can be controlled with the computer volume control.
Speakerphone
There is no speakerphone capability on the Harman Kardon Onyx Speaker system.
Ease of Set-up
Set-up is quick and simple. Just plug the speakers into your desktop or laptop, install the necessary software, and you’re good to go! Pairing is just as simple; take any of your Bluetooth enabled devices, search for the Harman Kardon in your source list, and pair!
Stereo Separation
Overall stereo separation isn’t that great, limited by the connecting cable, so you basically only get mono tone.
Wireless Range
Most Bluetooth devices pick up range up to 30 feet. This one is no different. You must be within 30 feet of the speaker in order to properly stream your music. Since they are bookshelf speakers, you probably aren’t going to need to go further than that, anyway.

This speaker has incredible reviews. Most users rave about the unique design, compact style, and outrageous sound quality. Most would say that setup is extremely easy and hassle free. The only real complaint is the auto sleep feature. At times, it will automatically shut off while your music is playing. Even though turning back on is simple, it can still cause headaches at the wrong time. Overall, though, reviews are extremely positive.
Price
Priced at around $250 for a pair of speaker units, these speakers are pretty expensive, especially if you are on a budget. However, for the sound quality alone, the price is worth it. Compared with similar models in the same price point, these are far more superior.
